A founding partner of KORNFELD MACKOFF SILBER LLP, Douglas Hyndman brings
a wealth of expertise to the firm in the areas of insolvency, foreclosure
and loan enforcement.
Doug graduated with a B.A. from McGill University in 1976 and subsequently
received his law degree from Dalhousie University. He joined Freeman
& Company and spent his initial years as a litigator. Doug began lending
and enforcement work for a variety of financial institutions and became
one of the firm's Senior Banking and Insolvency Partners. In that
capacity, he structured complex and innovative security packages and
developed expertise in corporate reorganizations for clients in the
hospitality, real estate and motor vehicle industries.
Doug has built up a substantial insolvency practice, acting for lenders,
creditors, debtors, receivers and trustees in bankruptcy on many complex
matters ranging from collections and foreclosures through to bankruptcies,
receiverships and re-organization. He has worked extensively on a
number of re-organizations and attempted re-organizations under the
provisions of the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act and the Bankruptcy
and Insolvency Act, acting for creditors, both secured and unsecured,
lessors of equipment and debtor companies.
As counsel, Doug has represented clients before courts at all levels,
including the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada,
the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the British Columbia Supreme
Court.
Doug is founder and past Editor-in-Chief of Butterworths' quarterly
publication National Creditor/Debtor Review, and the Regional Editor
of Canadian Forms and Precedents, Banking and Finance. He lectured
for Insight, the Canadian Institute and Continuing Legal Education.
He also acts as a director of several publicly traded companies. Doug
is married and the proud father of three.
