Neil Kornfeld E. Neil Kornfeld, Q.C. - Partner

A founding partner of KORNFELD MACKOFF SILBER LLP, Neil Kornfeld, Q.C. has practiced for over 25 years in the area of real property law, bankruptcy and insolvency.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Neil majored in economics at the University of British Columbia before pursuing law there. Following completion of law school, he joined Freeman & Company, becoming a Partner of the firm only four years later. Neil became head of the firm's insolvency law department, as well as a senior member of the real estate and banking department.

Neil is a highly regarded practitioner in the real estate field, acting for a number of large commercial and residential developers on the acquisition and redevelopment of noteworthy and unique sites in the Lower Mainland. His work involves complex development and redevelopment projects including density transfers and matters of heritage preservation, as well as land assemblies and re-zonings.

Neil also maintains an active insolvency practice. He has acted for lenders, creditors, debtors, receivers and trustees in bankruptcy on many complex matters ranging from collections and foreclosures through to bankruptcies, receiverships and re-organization.

In addition to his work as a solicitor, Neil has litigated matters related to real property and banking and insolvency. He has acted as counsel before courts at all levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada. In the area of insolvency, he is particularly known for his counsel work in cases involving interpretations of the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Acts.

Neil is a past president of the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver and is currently a member of the Centre's Board of Directors and Board of Governors. Neil is the father of two grown daughters.
